What's New
- Atzeon project begins. Dec 8, 2004. Thanks to David Boswell and the MozDev community for setting it up and donating resources to public Mozilla development.
Welcome to the
Atzeon Project
homepage.
What is the goal of the Atzeon project?
- The goals of the Atzeon project are complex yet practical.
- The project addresses the essential philosophical problem: what is a fact?
- How does a fact relate to opinion?
- How do we design media that can express facts or truth more readily?
- Are there biases inherit in media that are technological in nature?

Yes, that's wonderful. Sounds very philosophical and important. But what does this thing do?
- The first phase of this project will be an attempt to achieve a very simple technical function.
- Web Page Annotation
- This phase will develop a tool to allow anyone to
annotate a web page. These annotations will be available to anyone
who is browsing the page, and will preferably have both security and
group features. So in order to achieve this goal, two things need
to be developed:
- The Atzeon server. This server will enable users to store and retrieve annotations based on criteria. The main candidates for the platform are JBoss/ EJB and the Zope server.
- The Atzeon Firefox Extension. This will enable users to quickly and easily annotate a page as well as view all annotations associated with a given page. The means by which a page is annotated is fairly complex. I have worked out most of the details. Will post in the near future.

Do you find anything here interesting?
I want you to be a part of this project. If you are a Zope, EJB, or XUL/Mozilla/Firefox programmer, please contact me. Also if you are a sociologist, media theorist, political theorist, who sees the value in the project, I also want you to get involved. The benefits to helping out:
- experience developing open source project, looks good on resume.
- project has clear sociological, philosophical, and political import- could be used for Graduate Thesis project, looks good on CV.
- it will be fun, looks good to no one but is provides satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment.
